Biotique Face & Body Sun Lotion SPF 30 – A Critical Assessment

Ayurveda has healed and integrated skin solutions from time immemorial. The goodness of herbs has always been a boon for the skin, be it any ailment related to skin. And so what else can be a better answer to the scorching rays of the sun.




Sun-tanning and sunburn have always been a major issue for me to deal with. So, just for a try, I vetted the responsibility of my skin care to Biotique Face & Body Sun Lotion SPF 30, a herbally nutrient-rich lotion.

Biotique Face & Body Sun Lotion SPF 30 is an ayurvedic recipe for the skin combined with the science of 21st Century bio-technology. A preservative-free lotion containing the goodness of aloe vera, sandalwood and other such essential skin-nutrients, Biotique Face & Body Sun Lotion SPF 30 makes the following claims:

• Keeps skin soft, fair and moisturized under the sun
• Protects skin with Broad Spectrum SPF 30 against UVA/UVB rays
• Suitable for normal to dry skin

The container of the product is a plastic cylindrical bottle with a round opening. The cap is screwed securely to it avoiding any spillage. The packaging is very sturdy (resembling typical talcum powder packaging). The bottle and cap come in the combination of white and dark green respectively. The lotion is plain white in colour.

Usage Direction:

To be applied evenly over the body parts 20 minutes before stepping out in the sun. To be reapplied as and when required.

Product Composition:

• Ghritkumari (Aloe Vera), Chandan (Sandalwood), Surajmukhi Tail (Sunflower Oil), Kusumbhi Tail (Safflower Oil), Yasad, Lotion base.
• Aloe Vera, termed as “Soothing Desert Lily”, is a natural healer and sun-shield.
• Sandalwood makes the skin rejoice as it removes blemishes and dark spots
• Sunflower oil’s emollient traits moisturizes the skin keeping it healthy
• Safflower oil smoothens the skin
• Zincum prevents occurrence of pimples

My Personal Experience with Biotique Face & Body Sun Lotion SPF 30:

The lotion is of a runny liquid consistency, so it takes time to disappear under the skin-layers. With the traits of SPF 30, this creates an effective sun-barricade, protecting against the awful sunrays. As claimed, it softens the skin; however I find my skin to be lifeless after its application. It looks dull and the worst part is that my skin appears to be darker than its original shade. It has a strong smell and people from a two-arms’ length can also easily sense it. Nevertheless, the product has not drawn any side-effects on my skin and is a good ayurvedic product to be worn under the sun.

My likings about Biotique Face & Body Sun Lotion SPF 30:

• Does not give any sticky look
• Soothes and calms the skin down
• Works well under the sun

My disliking about Biotique Face & Body Sun Lotion SPF 30:

•  Takes time to blend completely
• Skin looks barren
• Strong odour
•  Not easy-to-carry package

Will I repurchase? Dicey, as in one hand it justifies to be a good sunscreen, whereas on the other, it is not that appealing to my skin texture and tends to darken it.
Probably, I will look for other better options.
